"Ocean Depths" is a drama film directed by Ron Howard, the main actors include Chris Hemsworth, Ben W. Shaw, Cillian Murphy, Michelle Fairley, etc. Adapted from a novel of the same name, the film mainly tells the story of the surviving sailors drifting at sea for 90 days after a whaling ship was hit and sunk by a whale in the South Pacific in 1820.
The background of the story is set in the cold winter of 1820, when a whaling ship named Essex was sailing south. Sailing in the Pacific Ocean, but encountered an unimaginable attack. A large, vengeful whale attacked the fishing boat so violently that it was eventually rammed and sunk. This real event inspired the novelist Herman Melville (Ben Whishaw), based on which he created the famous novel "Moby Dick", but the novel only reveals part of the tragedy.
In the movie, the captain (played by Benjamin Walker) leads the surviving sailors to find their way back at sea, while the first mate (played by K. Rees Hemsworth) is still focused on the goal of capturing the giant whale. The surviving crew members were forced into a desperate situation. They could only squeeze into three lifeboats and drifted at sea for up to 90 days. During this long and dangerous journey, the crew faced a combination of storm, hunger, fear and despair, and their lives were at stake.
